City of Boroondara is backing a landmark initiative to honour Alice Anderson - a pioneering mechanic, entrepreneur and trailblazer from Kew.
This week, councillors unanimously supported a proposal to collaborate with the Alice Anderson Memorial Project Association on a lasting tribute to Anderson’s extraordinary legacy.
The vision for the project is to create a full-size bronze statue of mechanic Alice Anderson, near her original garage in Petrie Square, Kew.
Councillors agreed to provide the site for the artwork, in addition to a proposed $100,000 budget allocation in the 2026/27 financial year, comprising of $60,000 for landscaping and a one-off $40,000 contribution towards the artwork.
This community-led initiative has been fuelled by the tireless efforts of the Alice Anderson Memorial Project members who continue to promote Alice Anderson’s legacy.
We look forward to supporting the group’s upcoming community fundraising efforts to achieve the $120,000 goal to create this meaningful public artwork in Boroondara.
