One of the most common questions we hear from our community is, “When will Kew Recreation Centre reopen?”. We know how important this facility is, and we understand the concerns caused by ongoing delays.

The project team expects construction to be finished in May 2027. Following this, our leisure and aquatic operator, The Y, requires about six weeks to prepare the centre for reopening.

We now expect Kew Recreation Centre to reopen to the public in July 2027. 

The unforeseen steel roof collapse, along with the investigations and legal proceedings, significantly impacted the redevelopment timeline. 

The decision to change to an all-electric heating source instead of gas boilers made at the Council meeting on 30 June 2025 also delayed the original program. 

We’re taking every necessary step to ensure the project is completed safely and to a high standard.
