Progress continues on your new Kew Recreation Centre.
Construction update
Most of the roof trusses above the warm water pool and spa have been installed and the installation of precast panels has begun.
Installation of roof rafters above the sports courts has also started, along with pouring of concourse slabs surrounding the 25 m, learn to swim and aqua play pools.
Over the coming months, you’ll see progress with the installation of the structural steel around the sports courts at the western end of the site, as well as concrete pours for the warm water pool and concourse slab.
To prepare for increased construction activity, additional site sheds have now been set up. Work is also progressing off-site, including detailed steel fabrication drawings and the production of structural steel and concrete elements.
Our priority remains delivering a safe, high-quality facility for our community. Several layers of quality assurance are in place for the project.

Demolition works
You may have noticed recent demolition works taking place to remove part of the concrete slab at the southern end of the site.
Damage was caused by heavy machinery that had to drive over the concrete slab to remove the steel that collapsed in 2022.
The contractor has begun removing the damaged section and will construct a new concrete slab starting in September.
Legal proceedings update
The Victorian Building Authority and WorkSafe Victoria are pursuing separate legal matters in relation to the collapse of the steel roof structure in October 2022.

We’ll continue to keep our community updated and share new information about these proceedings as it becomes available.
