We’re making some much-needed upgrades to Kew Library starting in early 2026. The upgrades will modernise the space and improve the experience for library visitors.

The library will be temporarily closed from early 2026 to early 2027 and will reopen once the upgrades are complete. During the works we’ll run a temporary library at Kew Seniors Centre on High Street, offering borrowing, returns, reservations and community programs.

You can also visit our other libraries at Ashburton, Balwyn, Camberwell, Greythorn or Hawthorn and can continue to access a huge range of free online resources.

Master plan development

We’re also developing a long-term master plan to help guide the future of Kew Library and deliver on what’s important to our community. The master plan will guide the creation of a modern library that connects with the surrounding precinct, parkland and streetscape, making it a destination point.

We’ll share the draft master plan with the community for feedback in mid-2026.

Refreshing our book collection

Parts of our collection are being removed as we prepare for the upgrade. We regularly refresh our collections so they stay current and in good condition. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please ask our friendly staff.
