‘Before I Turn 100’ is an interactive community arts project inspired by American artist Candy Chang’s Before I Die project. It has now been adapted over 5,000 walls, in 35 languages and 75 countries across the globe.

‘Our public spaces are as profound as we allow them to be. At their greatest, our public space can nourish our well-being and help us see that we are not alone as we try to make sense of the world’ – Candy Chang.

In November 2025, our community came together to pause, reflect and share dreams for the future. Families, friends, colleagues and classmates added their unique responses to our public chalk walls, forming a rich collection of stories, hopes and dreams.

This May, join us for a special exhibition at Hawthorn Arts Centre to see your contributions come to life. Shaped by the voices and vibrant spirit of our community, this immersive exhibition invites you to pause and reflect on what matters most over a lifetime.

Celebrate the past through the remarkable stories of Boroondara residents aged 100 years and over and imagine the future through the aspirations shared in the Before I Turn 100 community arts project.
