We’re proceeding with designs for installing heat pumps at the new Kew Recreation Centre. This decision was made at last night’s Council meeting.
Heat pump technology is known for its energy efficiency. Compared with gas boilers, using electric heat pumps to heat swimming pools is more environmentally friendly, producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
Using heat pumps instead of gas boilers would make the new Kew Recreation Centre building an all-electric facility. This is consistent with our Climate Action Plan goal to transition Council buildings away from natural gas.
Officers prepared a report which showed replacing gas boilers with heat pumps is feasible at the new centre. Detailed designs will now be developed to allow for accurate costing into the project.
