We’re reviewing the condition of more than 570 km of council-owned roads, footpaths, laneways, kerbs and channels across Boroondara to help plan for future renewals and upgrades. 

These routine inspections are an important part of our Road Management Plan.

We’re working with Infrastructure Management Group to do this. They are using vehicles fitted with cameras to record road and kerb conditions as they travel at normal traffic speeds.

The cameras only capture the road surface and kerbs. They do not record homes, people or private property. 

The audit is expected to be completed by mid-December 2025.

Why we’re doing this 

The information we collect will help us: 

• Prioritise funding: we can identify which roads need urgent attention and which can be renewed later.
• Improve safety: by identifying cracks, potholes or uneven surfaces early we reduce the risk of accidents for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
• Support long-term planning: accurate data allows us to plan upgrades years in advance, rather than reacting when problems become severe.

What to look out for 

You may see Infrastructure Management Group vehicles on the roads with their hazard lights on. If you’re driving behind one, please keep a car’s length of distance so the camera can capture the road clearly.
