There are several ways to increase the size of text when you are reading a page on the internet, depending on whether you are using a desktop or laptop computer, a mobile phone or a tablet. 

The easy way to increase font size

Apple Mac: laptop or desktop computer

  • While viewing an internet page, hold down the Command key (⌘) and press plus (+) repeatedly until the text is comfortable to read. 
  • To reduce the size of text, press Command (⌘) and minus (-)
  • To return the text to ‘normal’ size, hold Command  (⌘) and press zero (0).

PC: laptop or desktop computer

  • While viewing an internet page, hold down the Control key (Ctrl) and press plus (+) repeatedly until the text is comfortable to read. 
  • To reduce the size of text, press Control (Ctrl) and minus (-)
  • To return the text to ‘normal’ size, hold Control and press zero (0).

Mobile phone

  • With an internet page open on your phone, place 2 fingers on the screen and move them apart. This will zoom in on the webpage, making it easier to read text. 
  • To reduce the size of the text, place 2 fingers on the screen and move them closer together in a ‘pinch’ motion while still touching the screen. 

Tablet

  • With an internet page open on your tablet, place two fingers on the screen and move them apart. This will zoom in on the webpage, making it easier to read text. 
  • To reduce the size of the text, place two fingers on the screen and move them closer together in a ‘pinch’ motion while still touching the screen.

Windows PC

Find your version of Windows 

  1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press R
  2. Type ‘winver’ into the text box and then click OK or hit Enter on your keyboard. 

This will bring up an information box that will reveal which version of Windows you are running. 

Windows 10

  1. Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left of your screen.
  2. Select Settings, then Ease of Access, then Display
  3. You will see a box with a slider labelled Make text bigger. Move the slider to the right until the sample text is comfortable to read.

If you now look at internet pages, the text should look bigger. 

Windows 7 

  1. Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left of your screen. 
  2. Type 'Display' into the search box. 
  3. Click Display in the list of results that appears. 
  4. A box will appear offering three options: Smaller, Medium and Larger. Select the size you want. 

If you now look at internet pages, the text should look bigger. 

Apple Mac

  1. Click on the Apple icon on the top left of your screen. 
  2. Select System Preferences, then Displays
  3. You will see a box. At the top, you will see three options: Display, Colour and Night Shift. Make sure Display is selected. 
  4. Under Resolution, select Scaled
  5. You will be prompted to select from a number of options. The one with largest text is on the left. Select it and close the box by clicking on the red button top left. 

If you now look at internet pages, the text should look bigger. 

Phones and tablets

iPhone or iPad

  1. Click on Settings, then select Display & Brightness
  2. Click on Text Size
  3. You will see a slider. Move it to the right until the sample text is easy to read.

If you now look at internet pages, the text should look bigger. 

Android phone or tablet

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Select Accessibility, then Font size
  3. Move the slider to select a larger text size. 

If you now look at internet pages, the text should look bigger.
