Charlie’s County

As a special festival highlight, award-winning director, Rolf de Heer, will introduce Charlie’s Country and join us for an in-person Q&A session after screening.

Living in a remote Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land, Charlie (David Gulpilil) is struggling between traditional culture and modern life. Frustrated, he heads into the bush to live the old way, but a hard and confronting journey is ahead of him.

This is a wonderful portrayal by David Gulpilil and a confronting look into the damage created through loss of culture.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Ricky, a rebellious city kid, and his gruff foster uncle Hec, find themselves the subjects of a nationwide manhunt after venturing into the New Zealand bush. Their evasive adventure is a wild and whacky one and through it, their unlikely and difficult partnership grows into a touching bond. 

With wonderful chemistry between Sam Neill and Julian Dennison, this quirky, heartfelt adventure blends warmth and humour with plenty of laugh out loud moments.
