Council welcomed Lynden Ward Councillor Lisa Hollingsworth as the new Mayor of the City of Boroondara for the 2023–24 Council year.

At the Council meeting on 20 November 2023, Cr Hollingsworth was elected the 17th Mayor of Boroondara.

Cr Hollingsworth follows outgoing Mayor Cr Felicity Sinfield who led a dedicated group of councillors to steer Council towards the objectives of the Boroondara Community Plan 2021–31. Cr Sinfield has become Deputy Mayor after first being elected to represent Cotham Ward in 2016.

Incoming Mayor Cr Hollingsworth will lead City of Boroondara in its 28th Mayoral term. A long-time local resident, the newly elected Mayor said she is honoured to work together with her fellow councillors, Council officers and our community to make Boroondara an even better place to live, work and visit.

'The year ahead brings exciting opportunities for Boroondara and we will continue to focus our efforts as a Council to deliver what is most important to our community. This includes protecting the character of our neighbourhoods and addressing climate change in our community. We have a carefully considered budget balancing key Council services, major projects and maintaining our city’s infrastructure to the high standard expected by our community. At the same time, we will continue to improve Council services and programs that provide important care, support and community connection for everyone in Boroondara,' said Cr Hollingsworth.

'I thank and acknowledge the outgoing Mayor Cr Felicity Sinfield for her leadership, dedication and steady guidance this past Mayoral term. Cr Sinfield is passionate about serving Boroondara and I look forward to working with her as Deputy Mayor and with my fellow councillors to continue building on the many achievements of the past year for our community,' Cr Hollingsworth added.

The new Mayor also welcomes Council’s new 2023–24 Committee Chairs:

  • Cr Wes Gault, Chair of the Urban Planning Delegated Committee
  • Cr Nick Stavrou, Chair of the Services Delegated Committee.

Newly elected Deputy Mayor, Cr Sinfield said, 'I am delighted to serve alongside Cr Lisa Hollingsworth as the Deputy Mayor of Boroondara and look forward to working closely with my fellow councillors and Council officers in 2024. We will continue to work together to achieve our priorities for next year in line with the Boroondara Community Plan and continue to listen closely and respond to what our community values the most.'

In 2023–24, Council has committed to fund projects and initiatives to further support the environment, protect the character of our neighbourhoods and care for community members. The 2023-24 Mayoral term will be another exciting year for Boroondara with major projects including the continued redevelopment of Kew Library; works contributing to the revitalisation of Glenferrie Oval and the Michael Tuck Stand; and upgrades to sporting pavilions at Willsmere Park (Jack Gervasoni Pavilion), Canterbury Sportsground, Ferndale Park, Frog Hollow Reserve and the Lynden Park Pavilion that is due to be completed mid-2024.
