Gas is a polluting fossil fuel, just like petrol. Getting off gas at home is one of the biggest changes you can make to reduce emissions.
According to the Climate Council, households can make average savings of more than $1,000 a year by switching from gas appliances to the most efficient electric options.
Cooking with gas is linked to respiratory illnesses. Scientists have found around 12% of childhood asthma in Australia can be attributed to the use of gas stoves for cooking.
Induction cooktops are more efficient than gas ones. They cook faster and are more responsive. And their flat surface is a dream to clean.
You can get generous government rebates when you replace gas-powered appliances with electric. These include hot-water heat pumps, heaters, air-conditioners and induction cooktops.
You can borrow a portable induction cooktop from our libraries to give it a try. Or you can buy one from as little as $50. It’s a great option for renters and those on a tight budget.
