Event details
Under the Same Moon is set during WWII, based on family correspondence, private papers and oral history. It is as much about the families left behind in Melbourne and the story of life on the home front as it is about the lives of boyhood friends in a battalion that goes off to war. It is a multi-layered tale of love story, social history and political and military history.
Author Peter Mitchell will discuss:
- why he wrote the book.
- The idea of creative non-fiction and his sources – the family letters, tape recordings, private memoirs, archives and other sources.
- How he built out the research after the initial reading the letters and listening to the tapes, how he developed the stories of the individuals and their families and what he discovered.
