Murnong First Peoples' Gathering Place 100 High Street Glen Iris VIC 3146
Join us in recognising National Sorry Day with a special screening of the powerful documentary Genocide in the Wildflower State at Murnong First Peoples Gathering Place in Glen Iris on Sunday 24 May at 4:30 pm. This event is a great opportunity to learn and reflect on the significance of National Sorry Day.
Genocide in the Wildflower State is a powerful documentary that invites reflection on Australia’s history, the continuing need for truth and justice, and the importance of healing and understanding. Set against the landscape of the state’s wildflower regions, the film exposes the forced removal and institutionalisation of Aboriginal children in Western Australia under government assimilation policies, where missions and state settlements operated as sites of incarceration, intended to erase Aboriginal culture, identity and family life.
Film Rating: This film is rated PG and contains mature themes and sensitive material relating to the forced removal of Aboriginal children and the impacts of institutionalisation and cultural loss. Some viewers may find the content distressing. Parental guidance is recommended for younger viewers.
Advice: First Peoples are advised that the film may contain images, names and voices of people who have since passed away.
