To celebrate International Women's Day (IWD), we are screening Lise Meitner: The Mother of the Atomic Bomb (Germany, 2013).
To historians, physicist Lise Meitner deserves to be placed on a par with Einstein, Heisenberg and Otto Hahn. In the 1930s on the verge of World War II, she led a small group of scientists who discovered that splitting the atomic nucleus of uranium releases enormous energy. This extraordinary film tells the story of a woman who was far ahead of her time as a scientist and a pioneer of feminism.
Enjoy a casual conversation about the film and its themes with our Film Night coordinator and other movie fans. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
This is a free event but registration is essential. As part of IWD we are encouraging an optional donation from attendees to Impact for Women, a local charity that provides hope to women and children escaping domestic violence.
Access to film night is via the rear entrance off Highgate Grove. Please use the intercom when you arrive and press *6 for the Copland room. Doors open at 6:30 pm for a 7 pm start.
