Chinese New Year storytime and craft activities

Celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) with creativity for children. There will be writing of Chinese red banners (with a focus on Cantonese words) and DIY lai see packets together with Cantonese story time. We will also learn about the candy wheel and what all these Chinese traditions mean. Children ages 5 to 10 from all cultural backgrounds are welcome.

Bookings are essential.

Activities include:

• Chinese brush painting
• Lion dance pretend play
• red banner writing
• red packet envelope decorating
• CNY Lion Drum coloring
• CNY Candy box tasting
• storytime.

Participants and volunteers must purchase a Chinese New Year activity kit valued at $52. 

Chinese New Year activity kit contents:

• English story books about CNY
• red banners (clean copy)
• Year of the Horse red banners
• Chinese calligraphy practice papers
• Chinese brush pen and pen holder
• black ink and ink bowl
• Year of the Horse plush toy
• Year of the horse keyring
• red packet envelope
• Year of the Horse sticker sheet for decoration
• colouring of lion drum.
