International Women's Day (8 March) is a day of global recognition. It is a day where we recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in our community and beyond.

This year the Australian United Nations theme for International Women’s Day is 'Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.' The theme centres on economic equality and inclusion because when women have equal opportunities to earn, learn and lead, entire communities thrive.

This International Women’s Day, we're hosting a special breakfast event to mark the occasion. Join Elise Elliott, TV presenter and journalist, and a panel of local women to hear about the role we can all play in improving economic inclusion for women and girls.

Celebrating International Women’s Day in the community

To mark International Women’s Day and show our support for the occasion, we will light up Hawthorn Arts Centre in purple on the night of Friday 8 March. Purple is one of the signature colours of International Women’s Day.

Don’t miss the chance to see this architectural icon embrace equity by turning purple – symbolising justice, dignity and loyalty, in celebration of International Women’s Day.
