Entry information – Strings

Participants must read and agree to the General rules before entering the competition.

Strings Solo – 9 years and under

Date: From 10 am Sunday 26 May (Finals at 4:30 pm Saturday 17 August)
Venue: Hawthorn Arts Centre
Registration fee: $25
Time limit: 3 minutes
Requirements: Music of own choice for any orchestral string instrument, such as violin, viola, cello, double bass or harp. Participants must be available for the finals on Saturday 17 August, if they are selected. Participants may play the same piece at the final that was played at the heats, or select a new work.
Prizes: 1st – $30, 2nd – $20, 3rd – $10

Adjudicator: To be confirmed
Participants who are either related to the adjudicator or have been taught privately by the adjudicator within 6 months prior to date of event are ineligible to participate in this section.

Accompanist fee: $10
The official accompanist must be booked and the fee paid at the time of entry. The accompanist fee covers the performance only. Rehearsals are strongly encouraged and can be arranged directly with the accompanist. These will incur additional fees as determined by the accompanist. Entrants may use their own accompanist by private arrangement.
Pre-recorded accompaniment is not permitted for this section.

Date: 10 am Saturday 10 August and 11 am Sunday 11 August (Finals at 6 pm Saturday 17 August)

Prizes: 1st – $90, 2nd – $55, 3rd – $35

Date: Heats 6:30 pm Monday 22 July and 6:30 pm Tuesday 23 July
Finals 2 pm Sunday 18 August
Venue: Hawthorn Arts Centre
Registration fee: $25
Time limit: 12 minutes
Requirements: Two works of own choice for any orchestral string instrument, such as violin, viola, cello, double bass or harp. Participants must be available for the finals on Sunday 18 August. During the heats, participants will perform one work of their own choice for any string instrument. The time limit for the heats is 8 minutes.
Prizes: 1st – $500, 2nd – $75, 3rd – $50

Requirements: Music of own choice for any orchestral string instrument, such as violin, viola, cello, double bass or harp.
Eligibility: Participants cannot register for this event if they enter any of the competitive sections.
Prizes: In non-competitive sections, there is no placing or prizes. Participants will receive a participation certificate and written feedback from the adjudicator.
