Event details
Join photographer Clare Steele for a fun, hands-on photography workshop just for kids! In this two-hour session, young participants will explore the art of portrait photography using disposable film cameras and colourful 35mm film.
Inspired by portraits in the major exhibition ‘David Rosetzky: Plural Selves’, kids are invited to take photos of themselves and each other, learning how to see and capture expression, personality and connection through the lens.
Participants will receive a disposable film camera to use during the workshop. The film will be professionally processed after the session, with digital copies of their photos emailed to families.
No photography experience needed - just curiosity and a sense of fun!
This workshop is suitable for ages 6 to 12.
All participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the workshop.
Please note: as part of the workshop, children will both take portraits and be photographed by others. All participants should feel comfortable with this creative exchange.
About the exhibition
Experience the work of Melbourne-based contemporary artist David Rosetzky in this major retrospective exhibition. Known for his exploration of the plural self and the diversity of human identity, Rosetzky’s works investigate how individuals perceive themselves in relation to others, often through intimate, collaborative portraits of LGBTQIA+ and marginal identities.
This exhibition features some of Rosetzky’s most iconic works alongside a newly commissioned series that directly engages with the LGBTQIA+ community of Boroondara. Through video installation and photography, Rosetzky creates a compelling dialogue between different generations and experiences, staging personal narratives that consider the evolution of gender, identity and community over time.
