Event details
Two standout voices in Melbourne’s folk scene share the stage for an intimate night of storytelling and song. Alt-folk trio Grand Baxter blend heartfelt lyricism with rich textures of guitar and strings, while Callum Wylie returns to his acoustic roots with a raw, romantic new sound. Set in the historic Kew Court House, this special evening promises warmth, depth and timeless songwriting.
Grand Baxter
From the forests of eastern Melbourne come Grand Baxter, an alt-folk trio combining earnest songwriting, dense textures of guitar and strings and a humble folk charm. Inspired by Jason Isbell, John Moreland and Gillian Welch, Grand Baxter exists at the intersection of rock, folk and country.
Having performed together in various projects over many years and each accomplished in their own right, singer-songwriter Benjamin Langdon, violin/mandolin player Dylan Knur and electric guitarist Jack Wieseler have a chemistry and charisma that gives Grand Baxter a sound greater than the sum of its three parts.
Callum Wylie
After several years pursuing other projects, picking up and putting down the guitar and immersing himself in the Melbourne music scene, Callum Wylie is back with a new single. “If I Knew Your Name” is an ode to daydreaming and romance, recorded in the lush pastures of Cedar Creek Queensland at Easy Machine Recordings with JB Paterson at the helm. A move back to a more stark and minimal sound, Callum is returning to his folk roots with plenty more songs and stories to share.
