About the Monument
The Monument to Raoul Wallenberg honours the extraordinary courage of the Swedish diplomat who led one of the most significant rescue missions during the Holocaust, saving tens of thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary. Wallenberg was detained by Soviet forces in Budapest in 1945 and never seen again.
This powerful sculpture—Karl Duldig’s final public work—was commissioned by Free Wallenberg Australia with the support of the former City of Kew and unveiled in 1985. Duldig, a Polish-born Jewish refugee who escaped Nazi-occupied Europe and resettled in Australia, played a pivotal role in shaping Australian modernist sculpture. His legacy continues through public art, exhibitions, and the ongoing work of the Duldig Studio.
This event is presented in collaboration with the Duldig Studio museum and sculpture garden.
