Robert Forster, renowned singer‑songwriter and founding member of iconic indie band The Go‑Betweens, now turns his sharp creative eye to fiction with Songwriters on the Run — a rock‑and‑roll joyride of a debut novel.
Set against the backdrop of a struggling band touring through Central Queensland – complete with drug busts, prison breaks and a distinctly ’90s edge — Songwriters on the Run is a hectic, heartfelt and often hilarious tale that’s as silly, profound and grand as the music it celebrates.
Join Forster at Kew Court House for a special evening featuring a live musical performance and conversation about music, life on the road and the creation of his high-octane fiction debut.

About Robert Forster
Robert Forster is a Brisbane-born and based musician and writer. In 1978 he co-founded the internationally acclaimed rock band The Go-Betweens with Grant McLennan. They released nine albums during their career. A parallel career began for Forster in 2005, when he was appointed music critic for The Monthly. A year later he won the Geraldine Pascall Prize for this writing; and a collection of his journalism, The 10 Rules of Rock and Roll, was published in 2009. Forster left The Monthly in 2013 to devote more time to writing his memoir, Grant & I. In 2015, Forster’s alma mater, the University of Queensland, awarded him an honorary Doctor of Letters.

Jaclyn Crupi is a book editor, event moderator, awards judge and bookseller. She has worked in publishing since 2002. Jaclyn has written numerous books for both children and adults. Her book, Garden Like a Nonno, was shortlisted for an Indie Book Award and longlisted for an Australian Book Industry Award. Her most recent children’s book, The ABC Kids Guide to Loving the Planet, won the Environment Award for Children’s Literature. Jaclyn’s writing has appeared in The Guardian, SBS Voices, At Home, The Canberra Times, PIP Magazine and Frankie, as well as the anthology Family published by Text Publishing. Her most recent book is Planting for Native Birds, Bees and Butterflies.
