Chimæra is a Melbourne-based clarinet-cello duo that perform contemporary classical music, with a focus on 21st century Australian works.
Clarinettist Patrick Vaughan and cellist Darcy Gilkerson have extensive chamber music experience, including organising self-directed ensembles and performances. Formed in 2024, Chimæra has recently performed works by composers such as Stuart Greenbaum, Felicity Wilcox, Paul Dean, Gerard Brophy and are looking forward to presenting lesser-known works later this year.
Patrick is a clarinettist and bass clarinettist with a love for contemporary orchestral and chamber music. He performs regularly as a freelance musician across Australia and internationally. Patrick’s musical endeavours have taken him to New Zealand, Chile and Canada where he has performed chamber music alongside other emerging international artists.
Darcy is a cellist, composer and improviser with a passion for modern classical and improvisatory chamber music. His debut album Acteon was released last year to great acclaim. Darcy and his ensemble have recently returned from an album launch tour to NSW, Victoria and the ACT. His album is regularly aired on radio stations such as PBS and JOY FM and was featured in the October edition of Dingo Jazz Magazine.
Both Patrick and Darcy will be travelling to Slovenia this year for the Bled Contemporary Music Week to perform a series of commissioned works by emerging composers from around the world.
