Event details
Explore the 7 Wurundjeri seasons through the eyes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Embedded in Wurundjeri cultural knowledge, these seasons reflect the movements of the stars, changes in weather, and life cycles of flora and fauna.
‘Hidden Worlds on Wurundjeri Land’ brings together artworks by 18 students from across Victoria, created at the Future Aspirations Camp, hosted by Swinburne’s Moondani Vocational Centre of Excellence. The camp welcomed students aged 11 to 19 to join an art workshop exploring the Wurundjeri 7-season calendar. Guided by Aboriginal artist Deone West, with support from lecturers in Swinburne’s School of Design and Architecture, students created artworks reflecting culture, connection and Country.
Each artwork is a collaborative effort that brings together the students’ interpretation of the 7 seasons: Biderap (dry), Iuk (eel), Waring (wombat), Guling (orchid), Poorneet (tadpole), Buarth Gurru (grass flowering) and Garrawang (kangaroo-apple).
‘Hidden Worlds on Wurundjeri Land’ honours Indigenous knowledge systems and celebrates the creativity of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
