About the exhibitions
The Secret Life of Wings by Yee Ann Chiu
‘The Secret Life of Wings’ by Yee Ann Chiu celebrates the spirited personalities of Australian birds set against the backdrop of familiar Melbourne landscapes.
Growing up in Taiwan, where birds are shy and keep their distance from people, Chiu was captivated by the boldness of their Australian counterparts, from fearless magpies to cheeky cockatoos. Inspired by these encounters, she imagines their hidden lives, painting whimsical scenes brimming with colour and curiosity. Each work reflects Chiu’s delight in the unexpected and her fascination with the bonds between nature and community.
This exhibition invites viewers to rediscover the everyday with fresh eyes – to pause, wonder, and reconnect with the quiet magic we often overlook, guided by our local feathered friends.
Garden Harvest by Erasmus Primary School
‘Garden Harvest’ offers a glimpse into the vibrant life of Erasmus Primary School through a delightful series of student still-life drawings.
Celebrating the full cycle of growing, harvesting, creating and sharing, young artists from grades one to three turned their attention to pumpkins and persimmons grown in the school garden. Each drawing captures the rich colours, textures and patterns of the autumn harvest – observed with care before the produce was transformed into hearty soup in the school kitchen.
This exhibition is a testament to the creativity, dedication and community spirit of Erasmus Primary School students as they explore themes of mindfulness, growth and sustainability.
