About the exhibitions
Quiet Corners: The Art of AME Bale
Following several recent exhibitions that have brought renewed attention to historically overlooked women artists, ‘Quiet Corners: The Art of AME Bale’ presents more than 80 of her finest paintings and works on paper from public and private collections. Presented in the City of Boroondara, where she lived and worked for much of her life, the exhibition offers the rare opportunity to encounter Bale’s meticulous tonal practice, compositional skill and lasting contribution to Australian art.
Illuminated Stillness by Lucy Watts
Flowers in vases, a table set for no occasion, stacked books and glass bottles catching the light. Lucy Watts’ community exhibition ‘Illuminated Stillness’ honours the quiet poetry of everyday objects and domestic rituals.
Inspired by the distinctive glow and patterned light filtering through the leadlight windows of her home, Watts explores the emotional resonance of familiar settings and simple moments. Working in both linocut and acrylic, she experiments with textures and processes to capture depth, mood and atmosphere in each scene in a particular time.
‘Illuminated Stillness’ is a tribute to the domestic interior, a dynamic space shaped by light, memory and the movements of daily life.
