‘Borrowed’ by Carla Tucker – online exhibition

‘Borrowed’ by Carla Tucker is a community exhibition featuring still life paintings that pay homage to existing artworks, including selected pieces from the Town Hall Gallery Collection.

Each new work in the exhibition responds to a painting the artist is drawn to, including portraits, landscapes and still lifes from the twentieth century. Looking closely, Tucker depicts books, Australian native flowers, vases, and more, that echo the colours, materials, or composition of an original piece. Tucker pays respect to past artists by ‘borrowing’ from their legacy, aptly bound in the form of book motifs featured throughout many of the works on display.

Through the lens of reverent still lifes, ‘Borrowed’ celebrates the Town Hall Gallery Collection and the influence of art history on practicing artists by carefully revealing the traces of a painting within another painting.

Many of the artworks in this exhibition are for sale.
