Revitalisation of the Glenferrie Road precinct in Hawthorn is underway as part of our commitment to improving Boroondara’s public spaces.

Share your vision

Placemaking works best when done in partnership with local communities.

To get involved:

Glenferrie placemaking timeline

Stage 1: Understanding Place

From January to May 2020, we will undertake research and analysis of the Glenferrie area.

Stage 2: Imagining Place

Around March, we will ask the community for their ideas on what makes Glenferrie Road unique and what improvements could be made.

Stage 3: Vision and Priorities

From April to July 2020, we will work with the community to prioritise ideas and create a shared vision for Glenferrie.

Stage 4: Place Planning

From August 2020 to March 2021, we will use the shared vision to create a place plan, which will identify key areas for improvement. The place plan will be presented to the community before adoption.

Stage 5: Transforming Place

Beginning in 2020, we will bring the vision to life. This could involve upgrading infrastructure or planning events and programs. Short term initiatives will begin in 2020, while longer term projects will commence after completion of the place plan.

Glenferrie Road is home to a diverse mix of boutique fashion stores, cafés, grocers, healthcare providers, sports and recreation facilities and so much more.

You’ll find a cinema in the heart of the bustling strip and the Hawthorn Arts Centre where art enthusiasts are treated to magnificent exhibitions in the Town Hall Gallery space.

Enjoy food and wine from around the world, exploring the many restaurants and bars in the area as the sun goes down.

With excellent public transport links and a unique character, the Glenferrie Precinct has been selected as our next placemaking project, with the aim of enhancing this popular hub, creating a place for people to enjoy and feel connected to.
