What: Healthy eating in long day care

Description: In this three hour workshop for long day care cooks and directors, learn how to provide foods and drinks that support children's nutritional requirements and their development of healthy eating habits.

What: Understanding family violence

Description: An early childhood educator forum on the warning signs and referral pathways for Women and Children affected by Family Violence. The forum will be broken up into two sessions.

Session one

  • Explore ‘What is Family Violence’
  • assist educators to identify and respond to risk factors
  • introduce a risk assessment tool
  • and discuss safety plans

Session two

  • Panel discussion
  • Referral pathways in Boroondara and Eastern Metropolitan region

Description: Aimed at youth educators, hear about the latest research into gambling and young people from Associate Professor Samantha Thomas, and learn about the support services available for young people in Boroondara at this session from ReSpin gambling awareness. Term 2

When: Tuesday 23 - Wednesday 24 May (it is a requirement to attend both full days) 9am - 5pm

What: ASIST: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Where: 360 Boroondara Youth Resource Centre, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn

Bookings: Book your place - $60pp

Description: ASIST is the most widely used suicide intervention model in the world. In this 2 day interactive workshop, learn to:

  • reflect on how your attitudes and beliefs about suicide affect your intervention role
  • discuss suicide with a person at risk in a clear and direct manner
  • build a collaborative approach to intervention focused on safe outcomes
  • review immediate suicide risk and develop appropriate safeplans
  • recognise that suicide prevention is broader than suicide first aid and includes life promotion and self-care for caregivers
