Please note registrations for the 2019 Boroondara Eisteddfod must be made through our competition website Stardom. Please read the General rules before completing your registration. 

Registrations close on 1 April 2019. Late entries will not be accepted. 

Piano sections 

1.1 Piano Solo – 8 years and under

Date: from 10am, Saturday 4 May

Registration fee: $25
Time limit: 3 minutes
Requirements: music of own choice for solo piano
Prizes: 1st – $30 voucher, 2nd – $20 voucher, 3rd – $10 voucher

Participants who are either related to the adjudicator or have been taught privately by the adjudicator within 6 months prior to date of event are ineligible to participate in this section.

1.8 Piano Concerto Award – Open

Date: Heats – 6:30pm, Monday 29 April & 6:30pm, Tuesday 30 April; Final – 2pm, Sunday June 23
Venue: Hawthorn Arts Centre
Registration fee: $25
Time limit: Heats - 10-20 minutes; Final –15-25 minutes
Prizes: 1st – $1000, 2nd – $600, 3rd – $400  

Section requirements: entrants shall nominate a single excerpt (movement or movements) from a piano concerto to perform in their heat with a piano accompaniment. It is recommended that participants consult the list of works approved by the Zelman Symphony Orchestra for the final.

From the heats, three finalists will be selected who will be required to play a movement or movements from a concerto taken from the list of suitable works. Finalists will nominate a minimum of two preferences from this list, with the final choice of repertoire chosen by the conductor.

Finalists will also be required to attend four rehearsals with the orchestra:

  • either 7:30pm, Tuesday 4 May or 7:30pm or Tuesday 11 June at the Leo Baeck Centre
  • 7:30pm, Tuesday 18 June at the Leo Baeck Centre
  • 7:30pm, Thursday 20 June at the Hawthorn Arts Centre
  • 10am, Sunday June 23 at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.

Accompanist: Participants must provide their own accompanist.

1.9 Piano Solo (non-competitive) – 12 years and under

Date: 3pm, Saturday 11 May
Venue: Hawthorn Arts Centre
Registration fee: $25
Time limit: 3 minutes
Requirements: music of own choice for solo piano
Eligibility: participants cannot register for this event if they enter any section from 1.1 - 1.9
Prizes: in non-competitive sections, there is no placing or prizes. Participants will receive a participation certificate and written feedback from the adjudicator.
