COVID-19: Boroondara Arts venues are open. You must be double-vaccinated to enter.

Registrations for the 2021 Boroondara Eisteddfod are closed.

Section requirements

Section requirements and registration information can be found by clicking on the sections in the list below.

Participants can register for multiple sections, except for those registering in a section titled ‘Non-Competitive’ who cannot register for a competitive section within the same category.

For aged sections, a participant’s age is determined as at 31 December 2021.

Performances must be made in a single, continuous shot. No edits are allowed in the submitted video. Any edits of the performance will result in the disqualification of the entrant.

Entrants may record as many takes as they wish, but only one may be submitted.

Note: Entrants will not be judged on the quality of the recording or the quality of their instruments, they will only be judged on the quality of the performance.

At the start of the video, you must clearly state:

  • Your name, or name of your ensemble
  •  The section in which you, or your ensemble, are competing
  • The name of the piece(s) you are playing.

Please note this introduction may be made by a parent, guardian or teacher. This introduction will not be judged by the adjudicators and will have no impact on the competitor’s score or report. However, it is a requirement of entry.

Accompaniment requirements have been lifted for all sections. If you wish to perform unaccompanied, there will be no penalty. However, if you booked an official accompanist for your performance at Hawthorn Arts Centre, they will still be available to record and send you a backing track to perform with. Alternatively, you may record your video live with the accompanist, subject to Covid-19 restrictions. Please contact accompanists directly to arrange your accompaniment.

If you would like extra rehearsal time with your accompanist via video chat or phone, this can be arranged directly with the accompanist, and they will bill you separately for this as applicable.

Once you have selected the performance you wish to submit, please follow the below instructions.

Upload your recorded performance

You will receive a link to the Video Upload page by email on the morning your section submission period opens. This can be completed on any device.

On the first page, under 'Upload message', include:

  • Name of Competitor
  • The section you are competing in
  • The name of the piece(s) being performed.

On the second upload page, you will be able to Drop and Drag your video file or click “Browse” to select your video file.

Ensure the submitted video files is named correctly. This should be, first and last name of the performer and name of the piece being performed. All words should be separated by a space. For example, "Bob Smith Ave Maria.mp4".

You will then receive a notification on the screen to let you know the upload is complete.

Section schedules

To allow us to best assist competitors with their submission process, there have been some changes to section dates to allow them to be completed during business hours.

A two-day submission period has been provided for all competitors to submit their video performances. See schedules in Section List.
