COVID-19: in-person events may change and there are changes to council services.

To celebrate Open House Melbourne and the opening of Town Hall Gallery’s exhibition ‘Shelter in Place’, Boroondara Arts will be hosting a range of activities for you and your family to participate in.

The Glenferrie skyline mural

View a special mural, created by local artist Yan Yan (Candy) Ng that showcases significant places along Glenferrie Road. The mural offers a unique perspective of the precinct, illustrating some of Hawthorn’s more iconic locations including Glenferrie Oval, Swinburne University and of course the Hawthorn Arts Centre!

Collecting Hawthorn’s stories (24 and 25 July)

The Hawthorn Arts Centre has been a striking feature of the Hawthorn skyline for over 130 years and has been witness to many important ceremonies and great moments for our community.

To capture the story of the Hawthorn Arts Centre (previously the Hawthorn Town Hall) and the wider Hawthorn area, you are invited to share your personal and family memories that helped shape the local Hawthorn narrative.

Share your stories over the Open House Melbourne weekend by lodging your story at the Hawthorn Arts Centre ‘archival station’, or by emailing [email protected]. Stories will be displayed as part of the Glenferrie skyline mural.

NCM Musical Jukebox (10 to 31 July)

Dial a song and play the greatest telephone inspired hits from across the ages!

Our friends at the National Communications Museum (NCM) have put together something special to celebrate the forthcoming opening of their museum in 2022. Using an iconic phone booth, you will be able to dial a song and dance the day away - in the phone booth, of course!

Hands on Kids activities

Bring along your children to take part in a kids craft activity inspired by the built environment. Taking place in the Explore and Create area at Hawthorn Arts Centre.
