Council is seeking feedback on corrections proposed to be rectified in the Boroondara Planning Scheme in relation to the Heritage Overlay.

This project proposes to correct 64 anomalies in the Boroondara Planning Scheme which include rectifying mapping errors and updating the heritage grading (non-contributory, contributory and individually significant) to 32 properties already included in the existing Heritage Overlay.

Current status (May 2018)

Preliminary consultation

The preliminary consultation period closed on Monday 23 April 2018.

Council consideration

Council officers will review the feedback received and prepare a report for consideration by the Urban Planning Special Committee (UPSC). The UPSC will decide whether to:

  • Adopt the assessment with or without changes as a result of the feedback received and/or recommended by Council officers.
  • Commence the formal planning scheme amendment process to introduce the proposed changes into the Boroondara Planning Scheme.
  • Defer adoption of the assessment (in part or full) and commencement of the amendment until further work is undertaken.
  • Abandon the assessment.

The report is likely to be considered by the UPSC in mid-2018.

Affected and adjoining property owners/occupiers and anyone who provided Council with feedback as part of the preliminary consultation process will have the opportunity to address the UPSC in support of their feedback.

Note that the proposed heritage regradings have not been adopted by Council and do not carry any statutory weight. However, Council may use the recommended regrading’s to inform its discussions with planning permit applicants in relation to properties identified for heritage protection.
