Council offers a number of free courses for you to take control of your personal transport.
Cycling is a great way to get exercise, help the planet and beat congestion. Whether you're interested in cycling for recreation, transport or rediscovering what wind in your hair feels like, Council's courses are designed to build your skills and grow your confidence.
Back on the Bike
Friday 17 Feb 11am-1pm Gordon Barnard Reserve, Balwyn
Novice level course for new, or out-of-practice, riders.
Learn basic bike handling skills, how to choose, set up and adjust your bike, braking and using gears, as well as turning and balancing skills.
Urban Cycling Confidence
Friday 17 March 11am-4pm Gordon Barnard Reserve, Balwyn
Intermediate course to improve road riding confidence.
Learn techniques and strategies for safely riding on the road, as well as handy hints for planning your route before heading out for a short on road ride.
Friday 28 April 11am-1pm Hawthorn Community House
Novice level bike maintenance course.
Master the essential bike repairs, like taking off a wheel, cleaning a chain as well as how to repair punctures.
Basic Bike Maintenance for Winter
Friday 19 May 11am-1pm Hawthorn Community House
Don’t let winter put you off - prepare your bike and yourself for winter riding. Course includes wet weather riding tips, rain proof gear and preparing your bike for the winter months.

Bike School Holiday Program for Teenagers
Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 April Chatham Primary School, Weybridge Street, Surrey Hills
A two day intensive covering basic bike maintenance, traffic-free and on-road skills training to prepare for on road riding and independent travel. Suitable for 13 to 16 year olds who can already ride. Places are limited to book call 9278 4515. For more information see downloads below.
Guided Social Ride
Sunday 9th April 10am-12.30pm Start and end at 8 Inglesby Road, Camberwell, Boroondara Council Offices
Get out and about and get to know your local area by bike on this guided bike ride for adults. The 2.5 hour ride will take place on a mix of shared paths and local streets, including the Anniversary and Gardiners Creek Trails. Places are limited to book call 9278 4515.
