To come to a finished artwork, I need some constraints about what I’m going to make. So, if I’m presented with, or I find things, or if I decide this is the materials, then that’s more interesting for me than starting with clay and making a new shape that no one’s seen before. And, there’s a bit of the wanting to, not upset things - but - go “well, this is a cup, but it need not just be a cup, it’s an amazing shape and if I put three of them together it looks like this.” So, it’s making, perhaps, you appreciate the shape of the object as an object rather than just a functional object.
