Hi, everybody. Vanessa from the City of Boroondara. I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land and pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging, and any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people that may be watching this video.

I'd like to talk to you about DIY, homemade, thoughtful Christmas gifts. One of the things that my grandmother gave me many, many years ago was a jade clipping from her home. And it's suggested in some cultures that jade can be really lucky. It's certainly been lucky for us, and so we've always had a jade plant at our front door. I've decided this year for friends to give them a gift of jade for Christmas. Obviously this year has been incredibly tricky for a lot of people, and really, really difficult, and, hopefully, 2021 will bring bigger and brighter opportunities for us all, so I thought this might be a nice gift.

So, what I've done is found a recycled pot out in the garden, and I've been able to use that. Make sure that when you get a plastic pot, or even if it's a terracotta pot, that it has some holes in the bottom. That gives it an opportunity for the water to drip through.

What you'll need is just some gloves, a good knife or some secateurs. Take a clipping. When you do, get the barky bit off the bottom and maybe take the last couple of leaves off. It then gets planted into some potting mix. And keep it moist.

And so what I'm gonna do is pot these up for a whole range of our friends as Christmas gifts in the hope that the jade brings them good luck in 2021. What it looks like in the end is what I have here in front of me. And I will wrap a ribbon around that, put on a homemade gift card and make that look really pretty. And in a picnic in the park or wherever we can meet up with our friends, I'll be presenting those.

So, I hope that these are kind of some thoughtful and reasonably easy Christmas gifts that you can do at home. Thanks very much.
