Council seeks the views of owners of properties identified for heritage protection in a heritage study and the community before deciding whether or not to include the properties in a Heritage Overlay.

Properties in Heritage Overlays need a planning permit from Council for any demolition and generally need a planning permit for external alterations and additions.

Before you prepare your feedback, carefully read the letter or email invitation sent to you and the heritage citation which outlines the reasons your property has been identified for heritage protection. Make sure you are aware of the closing date to ensure your submission is considered.

Please tell us whether you oppose or support the proposal.  If you oppose the inclusion of your property, you need to tell us why and state any inconsistencies, errors or gaps in the heritage citation that you believe should be changed.

You should provide details of any alterations or additions that have occurred to your property which you think may have impacted the heritage value. Use photographs, building plans, permits and receipts for previous works to support your feedback.

It is important to note that there are some matters Council cannot consider. Council can’t consider impacts on private property value, potential or proposed development of identified properties, infrastructure issues, and property maintenance and upkeep.

A formal response to your submission will be provided in the report which will be considered by the Urban Planning Delegated Committee of Council.

Our Officers are here to help you with the process.
