We’re here today to celebrate the opening of GOYA, the Gallery of Young Art.

The gallery came about through consultation with young people and identified the need to support young, creative people within the City of Boroondara.

A Mile in My Shoes is where a group of young people came together and told their stories through the medium of artwork which was delivered by painting a pair of sneakers.

Young people in the community are often outspoken so a ‘A Mile in My Shoes’ gave us the opportunity to share our story and share our thoughts, feelings and views.

It inspired me to create an artwork that is special to me and tells my story.

GOYA is important to the young people in our community because it provides a space in which they can express their artistic views and display their work in professional setting.

The fact that we have this space that is supported by Council and Youth Services is amazing.

It’s almost ground breaking because it’s a place that artists can come and display their work and show it to other people.

Having an opening like today with all different people coming through and experiencing our work is something so special.
