I'm on the edge of Canterbury Gardens, opposite the Old Bowls Club, which is the site for the new Canterbury Community precinct.
Demolition excavation and site decontamination were completed early last year with the underground car park and basement retention system completed in mid-2021.
It was when the concrete structure and structural steel was erected towards the end of last year, that it was possible to start to see the new building taking shape.
Our builders have been working hard to combine the protected heritage building with the new building.
This includes connecting the roof trusses. The connection of the two buildings is important because it allows us to celebrate the heritage of the site while benefiting from the addition of this exciting new community facility.
Over the coming months, we will start to see the roof and wall cladding installed to make the building watertight.
The internal fit out will follow with the aim to create a comfortable, vibrant, and welcoming space for us all.
Building works are on track and I look forward to giving you another update soon and more importantly, to welcoming you to this wonderful new Canterbury Community Precinct building.
