Pam Welsford:
Any form of volunteering is about forming community.

Jenny Cash:
Many parts of the community run on volunteers. The Third Age is older people. Our branch Deepened U3A, when I joined there were 50 members that was in 2000, and now we have just on 1200 members.

Pam:
Friends of South Surrey Park have been going for 25 years and in that time we've worked on turning this area of back creek or as some people call it, Nicholls road drain into a biodiversity corridor. We are really excited to win the volunteer program impact award for Boroondara.

Jenny:
We're very lucky. We've got a huge team of people that help us. I do still feel like it's very much a representative award to us rather than just me, because we run an amazing program and right through covid we did extraordinary things.

Pam:
What do you get out of it? You get companionship, outcome of a project that you believe in, you get friends. Really. It's the group that started it is still there. So it's a very, very stable group we're just getting a bit older really. And now we're retired, we turn up on Tuesdays as well! *laughs*
