Volunteer in our libraries

Volunteers are a vital part of the Boroondara community.

Council runs the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre, which provides a wide range of volunteering opportunities, including the following library-focused activities.

For information on volunteering opportunities at our libraries, contact the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre.

Home Library Service

Our Home Library Service relies on volunteers to deliver and collect books and other materials to residents who are unable to visit the library. If you're interested in volunteering, you'll need:

  • a current driver's licence
  • your own car
  • spare time on a regular basis (usually monthly)
  • a Police Record Check (we can arrange this for you).

Computer Savvy Seniors

Computer Savvy Seniors run courses using library computers to teach basic computer and internet skills to senior residents.

If you're interested in volunteering as a trainer, you'll need:

  • a thorough understanding of computers
  • a Police Record Check (we can arrange this for you)
  • spare time on a regular basis
  • patience and a flair for teaching.

English Conversation Club

English Conversation Club is an hour-long weekly conversation class for adults who have English as a second language, to help them use English conversationally in a friendly setting.

If you're interested in volunteering as a tutor, you'll need:

  • experience as an English or ESL teacher
  • an understanding of cultural diversity
  • a Police Record Check (we can arrange this for you).

Volunteering opportunities for secondary students

Every year we have a small number of vacancies for secondary students taking part in:

  • The Duke of Edinburgh Program
  • community service placements.

For more information about these programs, ask a librarian or call 9278 4666.
