Book a library computer

Members can book a computer, free of charge, to access:

  • the internet
  • online magazines and online learning
  • your library account, so you can search for, renew, or reserve items online
  • Adobe Reader (for reading PDFs)
  • standard Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Free wi-fi

If you have your own device (laptop, tablet or mobile), you can access free wi-fi using your library card number and password:

  • Your ‘borrower ID’ is your membership number - the 14 digits under the barcode on your card.
  • Your password is your 6-digit PIN (your date of birth in DDMMYY format) or the password you set up.
  • If you've forgotten your password, you can reset your password.

You can print from our computers at any of our libraries. Charges apply - see fees and charges

Book a computer

Book a computer online

To book a computer online, you'll need your library card with your borrower ID and password:

  • Your ‘borrower ID’ is your membership number - the 14 digits under the barcode on your card.
  • Your password is your 6-digit PIN (your date of birth in DDMMYY format) or the password you set up.
  • If you've forgotten your password, you can reset your password.

If you are a visitor to Boroondara, please speak to staff at the library to arrange a temporary access slip, which will allow you to book a computer.

It's important that you read the conditions of use below before making your booking.

Note:

  • Computers can be booked for 1 session, up to 2 hours per day.
  • Sessions are booked on the hour during library opening hours.
  • You can book on the day if the library is open (library opening hours) or up to 8 days ahead.
  • Your booking will automatically be cancelled if you're more than 10 minutes late.

Cancel a booking

Remember to cancel your booking if you can't make it, so the computer is available for someone else:

Log in to your library account

  • If you've forgotten your password, you can reset your password.

Select ‘Bookings’ in your account. Then select the booking you want to cancel, then click 'Cancel Selections' tab.

You can also cancel by phone on 9278 4666. Make sure you have the date and time of your booking ready.

Conditions of use for library computers

Computers are available to all members of the public for recreation and information needs.

These terms are the conditions of use:

  • You need to book a time to use the computer and abide by the time limit of the booking.
  • Only 1 session per person per day is allowed in the interests of fair access.
  • Your booking will automatically be cancelled if you arrive more than 10 minutes after the start of your booking time.
  • You need to be self-sufficient: library staff can only provide minimal assistance with computer or internet use.
  • Responsibility for acceptable internet use by users under 18 rests with parents and legal guardians. See our terms and conditions.
  • Users must comply with copyright laws.
  • Printing from our computers will incur charges. See our fees and charges.

Boroondara Library Service does not tolerate bullying, discrimination or harassment – of anyone, by anyone.

You are not permitted to:

  • load software onto library computers
  • deliberately access illegal, inappropriate or restricted material
  • have more than 2 people at a time using the internet or computer.

Failure to abide by these conditions of use may result in access to library computers being suspended.
