An excited crowd was already waiting outside when the new-look Balwyn Library reopened its doors in early April following an extensive redevelopment -- and, just over a month down the track, our community is making the most of its fabulous upgraded facilities.

Along with improved access to the collection by way of a better lay-out, these upgrades include a new quiet study area separate from the rest of the library, more casual reading areas and environmentally responsible design features.

We consulted with library users and the community when we were planning the redevelopment to ensure that we understood their needs and aspirations for the facility. So we’re delighted to report that their feedback has been glowing.

But don’t just take our word for it: watch these videos to find out what members of our community most like about their magnificent new library.

Chloe, a young library visitor, loves choosing books to read at Balwyn Library.

A new era

It’s an exciting new era for this busy library, which has been close to its community’s heart for 40 years. And judging by our stats, its popularity is growing by the day!

In the first three weeks of Balwyn Library’s reopening:

  • 37,904 books were borrowed
  • 30,311 books were  returned
  • 5,575 reservations  were collected
  • 1,434 people either joined (649) or re-registered their membership (785).

We look forward to seeing you there.
