Balwyn Library closure and reopening

The temporary Balwyn Library closed on 16 March ahead of the redeveloped library re-opening on 4 April. See details about the closure.

Construction of the new Balwyn Library is progressing well with demolition and clearing works complete.  The ground floor concrete slab and lift well, along with the first floor structural steel and concrete floor slab have also been installed. The $8.9 million upgrade is due for completion in early 2018.

Extensive community engagement formed part of the planning and design and the new library will be a contemporary, attractive, comfortable and appealing place to visit.

In response to community need for lifelong learning, there will be more casual reading and study areas as well as a new, quiet study area, separate from the rest of the library. A larger community meeting room will be accessible after hours and enable greater collaboration among meeting members. With better technology and more efficient WiFi, the new Balwyn Library will meet both current and future customer needs.
