Sharing stories is one of life’s simple, but important pleasures and just 10 minutes a day of reading with your child can instil a lifelong love of books and learning.
To help with early-years reading, Boroondara Library Service is participating in the 1000 Books Before School program.
The program is for children aged from birth to five years and celebrates each book your child reads or listens to by marking, colouring or placing a sticker in a Reading Record (including books read to them at pre-school, kindergarten and library storytimes).
Don’t worry, if your child has a favourite and won’t settle for anything less. Whether a book is read once or one hundred times, each counts as an individual read.
Best of all, when your child reaches reading milestones, come into the library for a reward!
Join the 1000 Books Before School program
Joining the program is easy. Just pop into one of the six Boroondara libraries and register to collect a special bag and Reading Record.
You need to be a member of our library to participate with us. If not, you can sign up on the day. We have plenty of books to borrow and you can speak to a member of our team for recommendations.
We look forward to sharing the joy of reading with you and your child.
Storytimes at the library
Remember, we want to share in your fun too, so come along with your child to our regular storytime sessions to sing songs and rhymes and listen to stories.
Sing Baby Sing is for babies up to 12 months; Tinytots for young children between 12 months to two and half years; and Preschool Storytime is for children aged between two and half and five years. Sessions are held at all of our libraries.
