Boroondara Library Service is celebrating our city’s fantastic heritage, history and culture through a series of events in April and May 2018.

Our events provide you with the opportunity to explore your family history and the places where we live.

For those new to family history or who wish to enhance their research skills, Boroondara Library Service is holding an Introduction to Ancestry and Findmypast session. These resources are our key family history data and information portals. The session will show how to explore and navigate through the millions of records available online and will be held at Kew Library.

Find out about your family’s military legacy by attending Researching military ancestors at Ashburton Library.

Learn how to explore the history of your house, apartment, shopfront or dwelling at our Hawthorn Library workshop, How to research the history of your house.

Uncover The mystery of Fairyland by attending a talk at Kew Library by author James Nicolas. James is passionate about our local history and will tell the tale of a real Fairyland that existed in Kew. Fairyland was a free tourist attraction in its day, loved by many generations who to this day remember the positive impact it had on their lives.

Boroondara Library Service supports Genie Group, our genealogy network and group which meets on the third Tuesday of every month to share insights and conversations relating to family history research. Genie Group is open to passionate experienced researchers and those new to embarking on their family history search. Genie Group will meet on Tuesday, 17 April and Tuesday, 15 May 2018 from 2pm to 4pm at Camberwell Library, 340 Camberwell Road, Camberwell.

Remember the family Slide Night? Join us at Camberwell Library for a fun night with pizza and popcorn at Slide Night Boroondara where we screen 35mm slides from our historical collection and encourage the sharing of stories.

These events are free and celebrate the Australian Heritage Festival 2018. To participate, please register by visiting the relevant event page or by contacting Boroondara Library Service on 9278 4666.
