We have joined with the State Library Victoria to offer the 1000 Books Before School program. This program is designed to encourage parents and carers to read 1000 books to their children in the years prior to beginning school. Research suggests that reading to preschool-aged kids helps to develop early literacy, and assists with building vocabulary and language skills.

While 1000 books may seem like a lot, it can be easy to incorporate a picture book or two per day into your child’s routine. This includes books read or listened to at bedtime, during Storytime events at your local library, playgroup or kindergarten, and even books that you read multiple times.

Signing up for this program is easy and your child will enjoy rewards along the way. Simply head into your local library and enquire in person; you need only be a library member or to join the library to participate in this free program.
