Borrow music from the library

All our libraries have music CDs and DVDs of every genre - classical, jazz, folk, blues, rock and pop music.

Freegal

Stream and download free music and videos online from a variety of artists, genres and record labels with your library membership. You can download up to 5 songs each week. These songs are yours to keep, so each week you can continue to build your music collection.

To access via phone/tablet:

  1. Download the Freegal Music app in the Apple App Store (iPhone/iPad users) or GooglePlay (Android users).  
  2. Open the app and enter Hawthorn to find the Boroondara account.
  3. Login using:
    • Your membership number - the 14-digit barcode number (no spaces) from the back of your library card.
    • Your 6-digit PIN (your date of birth in DDMMYY format) or your password. If you've forgotten your password, you can reset your password.
  4. Search for a song and tap to download.
  5. Go to the my music tab to see and listen to all of your downloaded songs.

To access via PC/laptop:

  1. Go to Freegal Music.
  2. Login using:
    • Your membership number - the 14-digit barcode number (no spaces) from the back of your library card.
    • Your 6-digit PIN (your date of birth in DDMMYY format) or your password. If you've forgotten your password, you can reset your password.
  3. Search for a title and click on the download link next to your chosen song.
  4. When prompted select save and choose the location where you would like to store your song. If you aren’t prompted to save, right click over the download file and select the option that allows you to save the link or open the folder.
  5. Once the song is saved you can open or transfer the file into iTunes, Windows Media Player or a portable audio device.
