Ikebana is the Japanese form of Floral Art that can range from small domestic scaled work to large sculptural installations. Featuring individual and collaborative works by up to 30 members of the Melbourne Branch of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, the exhibition will reveal a broad range of styles and be reflective of the season. Ikebana is characterised by asymmetrical design using line, mass and space, in which the materials, vessel and the surrounding space are all regarded as essential elements of the work. The works in the exhibition are an engagement between the materials, the space in which the Ikebana is sited, the artist and the viewer.  Representing a unique moment in time that will never be repeated, Ikebana is an ephemeral art with deep roots to its genesis in Japanese cultural practices of Shinto and Buddhist religious traditions. , VIC City of Boroondara [email protected] Australia/Melbourne public
