Not only was he an exceptional composer, but Toundas also paved the way for many refugee composers who had settled in mainland Greece. Many of his rebetiko songs were performed by well-known singers, such as Stelios Perpiniadis, Kostas Roukounas, Roza Eskenazi and Rita Abatzi.
