Radheyshyam completed the Sangeet Visharad (graduation in music) from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Mumbai in 1966. He also completed a degree in textile technology from IIT Delhi. When he settled in Melbourne in 1996, there were no institutions that taught Indian culture, music, arts and language, so he started classes in sitar, vocals, harmonium, Hindi and kathak dance in a local school under a newly formed not-for-profit organisation Sharda Kala Kendra. In January 2013, Radheyshyam was awarded the Multicultural Award for Excellence by the Victorian Government for contribution to the community through the arts. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to the arts through classical Indian music on 26 January 2014.   The second half of the night will feature Vinod Prasana on flute. Born into one of India’s greatest flute-playing families, Vinod shines as an outstanding performer of authentic traditional and contemporary Indian music. Vinod’s emotive melodies, exquisite improvisations and divine flute song distinguish his performance of Indian classical, world and meditation music. Currently residing in Australia, Vinod is a performing and recording artist, teacher, craftsman and ambassador of the Bansuri. Vinod has more than 25 years of performing and teaching experience and continues a family legacy that celebrates more than two-and-a-half centuries of Indian music.   Both performances will be accompanied by Bobby Singh on tabla. Tabla player Bobby Singh, a disciple of the great maestro Aneesh Pradhan, is one of the most sought-after musicians on the Australian world music circuit and is the first choice for musicians from India touring Australia and New Zealand. Bobby has played with such luminaries as Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Purbayan Chatterjee, Shashank Subramanium and Guru Karaikudimani, amongst many others. Bobby has also formed many partnerships with some of Australia’s best known musicians, crossing many styles of music. , VIC City of Boroondara [email protected] Australia/Melbourne public
